How to export the chat (20 seconds)

Never done it? Nobody has. Pick your phone:

1Open WhatsApp and open the group
2Tap the group's name at the very top
3Scroll all the way down and tap Export Chat
4Choose Without Media
5Tap Save to Files and save it anywhere
6Come back here and tap Choose the file

You get a file called something like WhatsApp Chat with Barcelona.zip (or .txt). That is the one.

Export button missing?

Someone in the group turned on Advanced Chat Privacy, which blocks exports until an admin turns it off. Somebody in there has something to hide. Try another group for now.

The export only contains what is on your phone. If you joined late or cleared the chat in a moment of weakness, the range will be shorter.

Step 2: drop the file here

.txt or .zip, exported without media. Your phone does the reading.
